In most cases, your loan repayment date will be set for your next payday, as long as it is at least 8 days away and no later than 31 days. If needed, Cashback gives customers the option to move their due date up to three days beyond the original scheduled repayment date.
In California, every short-term lender whether operating online or from a physical store must be licensed by the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) before conducting business in the state. You can visit the Department’s website to confirm that a lender holds a valid license.
- A short-term lender may provide only one loan at a time, and the total transaction amount cannot exceed $300, which means up to $255 may be received after the maximum $45 fee.
- Lenders are required to display their California license and fee schedule at each business location.
- A lender is not allowed to issue a new loan to pay off an existing one.
- A lender also cannot provide another loan while a current loan remains unpaid, even if the total would still fall within the legal limit.
- If your payment is returned for insufficient funds, the lender may charge only one returned payment fee of up to $15, although your bank may apply separate charges.
- No extra fees may be added if you ask for more time to repay or request a payment plan, though the lender is not legally obligated to approve the request.
- By law, your short-term loan agreement must be provided in the primary language used during your discussions with the lender.
- A short-term lender may not threaten criminal prosecution because of insufficient funds or a returned payment.
